I'll be doing this over the next few weeks and found this somewhat informative. In it he mentions that replacing the resonators with a straight pipe results in no change - I assume he means noise/drone etc. Was the exhaust just over-engineered as per Jaguar's philosohy? Anyone ever done this? I cannot seperate the resonators and will need to cut them off.

The rear mufflers make a noticeable difference in sound level. Moreso than the front mufflers, IMO

Thanks Doug. Did not seem right for a straight pipe if Jag went to all that touuble for resonators - and added expense to do it "right". I will salvage mine.

When I did mine i couldn't separate the over the axle exhaust from the back mufflers and cut the pipes and used a female-female pipe connector to rejoin them (didn't trust my welding skills under the car}. Don't trust those old metalastic connectors to hold up the IRS, always have a jack under it. I KNOW. It's really amazing how little holds the IRS in place.
That was my thought, I will cut the pipe to leave enough resonator to splice onto. Many thanks. Female to female sounds the correct way to proceed.
