Question SIII Fender braces

Morning everyone - Minus 12 degrees and 6" of snow!
I want to remove the "V" Fender Braces in the engine compartment for refinishing. Are they statically under compression/tension or can I just unbolt them or do I need to apply some sort of brace?, Ian

Just pull 'em off. Nothing bad will happen.

On reinstalling make sure the bolts are tight.....tighter than you'd normally think would be required...or you'll get some odd clunks as you drive

Cheers

Ditto !

The big bolt at the cowl is a bear. A big Nylock nut. 9/16' as I recall. One arm to hold it. Wrench size access limited. And another big socket and rachet for the top one. Use 1/2' drive for leverage, you will need it. 3/8" tools a bit small.

Thanks Gentlemen, They always seem to look so beat-up which is a shame as they are such a pronounced feature in the compartment. To a novice they hint at massive power under there! I will hit the garage this evening - Merry Christmas.

I remove the Torquing Bars every two years to refinish them with anti-rust Rust Oleum paint because they rust.
