Default Speedo jumps into action

Wow it's like speedo problem day on the board today haha.

I just have a question, does anyone else's speedo take a couple seconds to jump into action just after starting? Mine takes about maybe 5 seconds after start up and take off (no waiting around) to even show any speed.

My speedo quit working the other day haha. I can make it move by spinning the cable at the trans end. So I'm guessing it's the 90 degree thing or the speedo gear. Hopefully it just needs to be tightened up

Mine did that once. Investigation revealed the sheath was broken at the nut on the 90 degree fitting because said fitting was never installed properly.

This caused the sheath to take all the load of the cable bouncing and trans movement, and eventually the cable sheath broke at the nut because of simple fatigue, leaving the cable itself hanging down in the dust and the 90 degree fitting flopping back and forth uselessly. Access was so limited that tightening was out of the question

I did NOT want to find another sheath, nor did I want to try threading another one through the maze or wires and vacuum tubes in the tunnel!

After cleaning up the cable and making sure all the parts fit together as intended, I hay-wired the sheath to the 90 degree fitting in such a way that side cutters will be needed to get them apart.

It now works as well as it did when I got the car. Given the oily condition of that area, I don't expect the baling wire to degrade before the car disintegrates into a pile of iron dust.
