I have a series 2 xic. Can I use series 3 tail lights without cutting the metal ?

I'd also leave it alone, if it were mine.

As you're in AU your XJC presumably has the Euro/ROW spec rear bumper. IMHO Series 3 tail lights do not sit well behind the bumper's large overriders i.e. the inboard edges of the lights become very slightly obscured. It works on U.S. spec XJC & Series 2 because of the differently styled bumpers in that market.

I agree with Tony.
We've recently had a discussion around another coupe with Euro bumpers and S3 tail lights, and (personal opinion here) I think it looks kind of stupid.

I agree; the overriders on the USA Series 1 are similar to ROW Series 2 and block the S3 tail lights. I bought a set but never fitted them for that reason.

But I've seen photos of European XJs with very petite rear overriders, which allowed fitment of S3 tail lights. I have not been able to find them again. They were sort of a bump which extended vertically less than one inch. Anyone seen them?

Yes, although I think without the black rubber. Looks like that coupe' also has the S3 boot lid plinth, which is not easy to fit on earlier cars. Know any more about the overriders?

Those "bullet" style overriders look like the standard overriders fitted to the Euro/ROW front bumper on Series 2. I'd say that's what they are.

Only IMHO, the S2 in Euro spec is more elegantly trimmed than S3 and shouldn't be spoiled. I like the chrome bumpers and those unique overriders, plus the grab door handles & grille, it all looks wonderfully period. Yep, I'd be more determined than ever to keep an S2 fully stock if I had one!
