Here's the finished product, back in the car. I have to say it came out better than I thought it would.

Very handsome!!! Now, a layer of high carnauba wax well buffed. More shine and UV protection.

I particularly like the ski slope finnish, mine us ughy black!!! Base model jaguar !!!

Thanks, Carl. The finish has to harden more before I can wax it but I'll eventually do it. It's shinier than it looks in the photos.

It's gorgeous! You've done a wonderful thing to that XJ.

Thank you, Greg!

So far everyone who's seen it in real life thinks I re-veneered it. When I tell them I painted it they look closer then tell me they don't believe me. I have to show them photos of the process to prove it.

Of course a Jag owner would immediately recognize the "wood" isn't quit what the factory would have used, the color is more red than stock, and it's not bookmatched, but since this is "just" my daily driver I was more concerned that it looked good than looking original.

Very swish! Good work.
I'm also working on mine ATM. Sanded it back (carefully) to the veneer & using a rattle can gloss clear.
So far, so good.

Thanks, Peter. I would have done the same as you if it was only the varnish that was damaged, but the wood was falling off and lifting. Good luck and proceed carefully!

Great job.

I've added a link to your original thread at the top of your post.

Thanks, Graham, and I appreciate you adding the link.

And one more photo from a better angle. Again, it photographs redder than it actually is.
