Default Tow Eye (trying to find one to buy) for 1986 XJ6

First post here, just purchased a 1986 Xj6, need to winch it up onto a trailer. After a lot of searching looks like best way is to winch up using front tow eye - is this correct? There is no tow eye in trunk kit and cannot find one online.

Thanks for everyone's help!

This illustration shows the tie-down eye that can be used to pull the car, providing it is free rolling. There are two of these. You'll see them if you just look under the front of the car

CBC2292 and 2293

Makes me curious if there's anything like this on my '73 S1 car.

Gonna check the parts book (I'm away from the car atm) and if there's nothing there, I think I'd like to install at least one of them....you never know when a flatbed journey might present itself...

EDIT; There's nothing in the book suggesting they came on the S1...anyone here know about the possibility of fitting a pr. from a later car?

Check for place on front bumper to screw in tow eye that would have come with jack kit. Not sure what years this applies to but saw some notes about this posted.

Maybe on later vintage Jags. Not these.

Never tried but my gut tells me that they'd fit. The subframe and associated parts didn't change much, if at all, on the Series I-II-III cars

If the car is free-rolling then the lower control arm is stout enough to attach a winch line, if need be

my 1984 has two tow eye brackets, one on each side. I guess they anticipated the car getting towed left and right !
Also have a Screw-on towing eye I pulled from a minivan. I don't see any way you could fit a screw-on towing eye to a XJ-6.

the tow eyes are very similar to the engine lifting brackets located at the cylinder head. Not identical but very similar.

However, you could get two of those cylinder head brackets and weld them to the front member ?

At the end of the day all it is a piece of metal that goes through the bolts on the front of the subframe. I spent 2 minutes drawing up something that would work from SendCutSend and two of them in 1/4" 7075 aluminum come out to $33. This is pretty close to what the two on the front of my S2 looks like.

Hey Doug, I'm with ya on that...when I'm back up in L.A. I'm looking into this.

Better to not mount anything on the bumper imo.

The car's a daily driver with new everything, so I reckon it shall remain forever a free-rolling unit...

...yeah, I know.

Yup!

Pretty common nowadays.

Most commonly seen on cars that have belly pans and/or low slung exotics

Not sure when/if Jaguar starting using them but suspect they do.

Both my '04 XJR and '17 XE have them in the same molded foam thingy that holds the jack and associated tools.
