Tranmission shifter

Default Tranmission shifter

Hi guys sorry been busy but old lady J traveling well. One problem that has popped up is the shifter will not allow me to start the engine unless positioned between drive and nuetral. Whats the fix?

Sounds like the neutral safety/reverse light switch needs adjusting. On your car it'll be on the side of the transmission.

Here's a write up on adjusting the switch to make the reverse lights operate. The same basic method is used to adjust the switch for proper starting

Adjusting Backup Lamp Switch, Series III XJ6

Some switches were not capable of being rotated. In that case the switch must be removed and the screw hole lengthened to allow the switch to pivot
