Transmission swap?
Hello i am not one to make these kind of threads but i am having a very hard time finding any details on this..
so i have been driving my 1986 jaguar xj6 with a 4.2l i6 and i truly enjoy the car it is absolutely an amazing automobile.
well when i drive it on the highway i notice that the revs are very high, i know this is normal mainly because the jag only has a 3speed auto.
my question is does the 4 speed automatic that is available on the ford made 4.0l i6 1992+ jaguar series 3 xj6 have bell housing similarities to the 4.2l?
i know its a long shot but i am just curious lol..
also i have seen on many of my parts suppliers they seem to mention a manual version of the xj6? is this an option only offered in the UK or is there no such thing as a straight 6 manual?
Thank you very much for your insight

As far as I know the 4.2 XK engine had an unique bolt pattern.
After the Ser III came the (Jaguar made) XJ40 which used a ZF transmission (GM transmission behind the V12s). There is/was an outfit in the UK selling a kit to install that transmission in a Ser III XJ6. Extremely costly, as I recall.
Here in the 'States many use the 4-speed 700R4/4L60 GM transmission with a conversion kit from John's Cars in Dallas.

The Ser I-II-III XJ6 did come with a manual trans. As far as I know it was offered in all markets except North America. I think only about 5% of the Ser III cars were so built.
Cheers
