Thanks. I do have a bleeder kit. We will see how it goes. Should be child's play compared to the master cyl is had to replace in my old Diablo

I need a sanity check. This is for a US 74 xj6. I pulled the fuse panel under the dash and saw there were 10 amp, 25 amp, and 35 amp fuses. When I Googled the stock Lucas fuses a post popped up on here with British to American cross references (Lucas to AGC). HOWEVER, I forgot that the person making this post may have actually been in Europe. Anyways, I ended up ordering Bussman AGC fuses in 7.5, 15, and 25 amp. Should I have actually ordered the Bussman AGC in the 10, 25, and 35 as the amps were displayed on the fuse panel?
I woke up this morning and it was literally the first thing that popped into my head. The joys of being an automotive enthusiast!

look at the Owner's Handbook if you have it.

in my '84 the fuses are 15 / 20 / 35 and a few 5 amp fuses.

I think that as long as you do not exceed the rated capacity of the fuses in their locations, it will be ok.

Thanks but my question is really if the fuse markings on the fuse panel are British or American...

I.e. the Bussman conversion. Chart is:

English Type. = American Standard replacement.
50 amp. = AGC 30 or 25.
35 amp. = AGC 25 or 20.
30 amp. = AGC 20 or 15.
25 amp. = AGC 15.
20 amp. = AGC 10.
10 amp. = AGC 7.5 or 5.
5 amp. = AGC 3.

So on my fuse panel, it says 10, 25, 35. Are those British or AGC values? I assumed british, so I bought AGC equivalents. I'm not sure if I'm right.

The ratings in the manuals and on the fuse panels are the British system. You should buy and use the USA equivalents.

There are USA suppliers that sell the Lucas fuses...paper tags and all....if doing so strikes your fancy

copied from the Bussman Conversion Chart:

Personally, I feel even this chart results in fuses rather larger than needed, so for example I use an AGC 20 to replace the original "35 amp" fuse in my TR3A. My conversion chart would go more like :

Thanks! I will give these a go but I'll keep the other sizes in mind. I was hoping the bulbs I ordered would have arrived today but no luck yet.

Searching forums turns up so many results, I'm not sure what is correct....I had ordered a full filter. It looked like there is an in line unit beneath the carbs. The FRAM one I got, G7404, looks much larger. Other places show there is a filter in the trunk and/or under the car along the frame, and one that is in each carb. Can someone clear up where the filters are for a 74. Suggested part numbers?

And where is the water temp sensor?

I personally like fuel filters out where I can easily change them, not back with in-tank pumps or under the car. Just before the carb(s) is where I would move them (assuming there's space) no matter where they were originally mounted. I also like the biggest diameter filter cartridge I can find, not one of those 1/2 inch jobbies made for the likes of my lawn mower.

But that's just me.

I'd agree. I'm just wondering where they all are as I would like to replace all of them instead of just one. I glanced under the car but didn't see others.

How do you access the fuel senders at the tanks??

First, remove the tail lights and then read this thread:

It's not hard, but the senders are mounted very low in the back of the tanks. You could jack up the rear if fuel level is close but not quite empty.

Thank you! It does look like there is one beneath the carbs and then one under the trunk area. I replaced fuses but my fuel gauge was still not working. I need to check with a voltmeter and see if it's the gauge or the senders.

I think there is (or should be), only 1 fuel filter in the XJ, carbed or injected, the one in the trunk / boot.

Can anyone tell me where to get these tiny bulbs that light up the Fuel Switch / Heated Window and Map / Interior buttons? I've attempted to order twice now and the bulbs hat I thought were right are too big.
