Default Vats question for the lumpers

Picking up block and crank today from machine shop, yay! Anyhoo. Been reading everything i can find about this lt1 and related harness, pcm etc. Found a great site called lt1swap.com answers just about every question except the 1 I currently have.....
When I bought drivetrain it was a running driving setup, however, the car it came from ( not the 94 formula it was originally in) pretty much had a race setup, dash was all toggles, manual turn on of fans, fuel pump, etc, push button start ( no key at all)
By doing all that was the vats simply unable to disable anything??? I know that vats does something to disable starter, but it also disables injectors somehow ( unless I am reading it wrong)
It's also possible that vats was deleted in the pcm, however without having it hooked up I cannot find out? What's my best way to proceed? Install it all and see what happens? Or ????

Lost a much more detailed post !!

In short, you should be fine. the donor car had none. or it was deleted from the PCM.
It was running just fine sans the ignition switch with the "special" key.

Enjoy the journey...

I can reprogram your PCM with any parameters you need adjusted including vats and speedo. It's $100 for the service and includes free return shipping. PM me if you are interested. I have an LT1 car and the cable to program the PCM at hand.

Thanks, will keep that in mind when the time comes, i am finding out more about the motor I got, was looking into upgrading a few things, but apparently I have the lt4 hotcam already, but its still has the standard 1.5 non roller rockers, my math says that even with those, the springs have been upgraded or would bind.. (i could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time) I don't think pcm was tuned for it as pistons were jet black and plugs were super sooty so it was running way rich. I cannot see amy markings on torque converter somi dont know what stall it is or if it is just a stock unit... soo much to figure out still..

I've successfully bypassed the VATS on an LT1 by inserting a resistor into the wiring harness that essentially takes the resistance value that was once on the key and placed it in the harness in the form of a resistor.

There's a write up on it here.....

https://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/car-aud...-write-up.html

If the motor you have has successfully run in a non-native car already, chances are there's already a resistor wired into the harness somewhere to dummy-out the VATS.

There's also a VATS defeat box they sell to do the same thing. You might have one of those wired into the harness too.

While I've never had it done, editing out the VATS function seems like a lot more elegant solution (albeit more expensive)

Have a good look at the the injectors. Its common for people to install a performance cam and then simply install bigger injectors with out proper PCM tuning. OE LT1 injectors are 24lb/hr. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody installed 30 lb injectors.

If you are going to have it tuned anyway for the cam and injectors, it just makes sense to have the VATS disabled at the same time by editing it out of the PCM

I've had good results with a couple of my conversions having them tuned on a dyno. Performance and drivability were both much improved.
