Default What expansion tank do I have?

Hi
Can anybody tell me for which XJ these expansion tanks are for? I bought the top one, supposed to fit to my XJ12 S2 1976 but is different from the one I had (bottom one with tube still mounted).
thanks
/Marcus

OK,

The top one is V12HE, as in 1982ish onwards.

NO exit spigot.

The lower one is the PreHE V12 header tank, note the spigot that "T's" into the heater return piping.

PreHE V12 is all S2, and early S3 cars, also XJS 1976 to that 1982ish time mark.

The PeHE tank CAN be fitted to the HE system, the HE tank will not work on the PreHE without a lot of other items and work.

The top one looks very much like the one in my 1976 Series 2. Unfortunately, I cannot get to my car because of travel restrictions and cannot, therefore, be 100 percent sure!

The top tank is identical to those fitted to late series 1 XJ6 and early series 2 cars, Not sure about the bottom tank. It is different to the tank on my series 1 Xj12.

Hi all
Thanks for all the feedback.
The one I bought (top one) will not fit. I had a look at all the piping…
I tried to de-rust the original one (bottom picture). Successfully de-rusted after 1 week in vinegar bath, but now it leaks through small holes everywhere =)
The gods are really against me on this one….

CH = Confoederatio Helvetica -> the confederation of the Helvetians (Celtic tribe that lived here once)
Nowadays more known to the English speaking world as Switzerland =)
I will see if I find someone to repair it... thanks for the tip.

Switzerland. Fond memory. Dear departed and I eloped from Germany to Basel and married there at the Standesamt!!!!

Do have a go at solder on that leaky tank. Sand it bright clean. Acid prep for flux. hand torch and solder. Wipe it with an oiled paddle. The technique of old tech collision repair.

On a past project, i found the tin oil sump of a 32 ford 4 full of teeny holes. I decided to braze. Got it at last. The entire bottom now brass coated!!!! I may have donme better had I coated the exterior not the interior!!!!

In any event, I enjoyed the use of one of my toys..

For most of us it's like patching a kitchen sieve. Would be different if it had been made of brass or aluminum. Would not have the problem to begin with.

just send your tank to White Post Restorations in White Post Virginia USA.

they fabricate parts for Duesenberg cars for which there is no parts supply anymore, or for ANY car.

Sure they are expensive, what is not expensive nowadays? White Post craftsmen will make you a new one better than new.

Default Expansion Tank & eBay

We have all had problems with eBay over the years, but it's still a great source for most of us who lay hands on the things in our life. It's a JEEP ! I have had five !
Inexpensive parts are available all over the world. Jose may be right about White Post Restorations for a collector car, but it's a Jeep with a plastic overflow tank. Just do it or go to the Jeep Forums and seek guidance.

Yep,,,Plastic Washer Tank no problem ! Could use your son, his TIG unit & his fine art skills. We are using a Miller 211 with Spool Gun & pure Argon. We'll see !

You can repair a washer tank successfully with five minute epoxy and medical gauze if it's cracked. Actually found the idea on a You Tube video. Fixed a 130 dollar washer tank on an X308 using this method.

I used the same method on the brake reservoir cap for my '73 XJ6...
