1986 XJ6 S3 - Poking around in my engine bay and wondering what a few items are and what they do...may be exposing my ignorance here.
Thanks in advance for your help! Only been working on cars in earnest a couple years, and it doesn't help that I've gone from 80s Lincoln, to 70s Cadillac to 80s Jaguar in the past 4 years. I can mostly figure out what I need, and have her mostly running nicely as a daily driver, to but interested in broadening my knowledge base.
1) The bell behind the engine block
2) A weird, elongated nipple on the driver's side of the firewall.
3) The small silver cylinder with wires that attaches to a hose that comes out of the throttle body, and goes out by way of the passenger wheel well (the idle control screw is in between this cylinder and the throttle)
4) The rubber elbow on the front of the block. it was not sealed well, is gunky inside, and rotting. Probably replace it but need to know what it is.
-drain for grille area in front of windshield. One on either side
......
Expanding on the answer above the large rubber elbow on the firewall is where rain water that goes in the fresh air grill on the cowl drains out. You want to make sure these are open so water doesn't back up in there. They are fragile and had to find so handle carefully.

I just took mine out as i am no longer using the drains and the pipes, If anyone needs them let me know.
Kriss - If you are referring to the drain hose and rubber bulb below it as being available, please let me know. I'm missing one on my XJ6C. Thanks, Bill See below:
Continued searching might yield results.....but I gave up on finding the drain elbows and duckbills in good condition. I ended up buying a couple of radiator hoses of the right diameter that had a 90º elbow and cutting them to fit. I used a couple (barely) serviceable duckbills.
Couple of quick pointers in case you don't know. First, as to the Crankcase ventitlation rubber fitting (your picture #4) when you get the new one, make sure to get a small width clamp. Regular clamps from the auto parts store will not hold it to the metal part. I think there was a one time clamp on when I changed mine, or I lost the orginal. In any case I used a standard hose clamp from the auto parts store and the breather kept popping off. Porsche used the clamps in question and they can be obtained from FCP Euro. I don't remember the size. But make note of it.
Second, don't buy your heater valve from XJS.com. I bought one there and it leaked immediately upon installation. It is not built the same as the original. SNG Barratt sells them and theirs are good.
