Whats it worth?
Hello everyone! thanks for clicking on my thread, I was wondering how much a 76 Jaguar XJ12L is worth? it has no rust and the whole body is solid. it comes with a new engine. the interior is alright. its a dark blue. I would have to put the engine in it i was wondering if it was worth my time and money. i truly love the look of the car.

Hard to say as they don't change hands very often.
Seems like there was a *fully restored* example a couple years ago that sold for $10k or so. I'm sure it was a fraction of what was spent on the resto.
Sounds like yours needs work. Maybe $1000 for a fair example that can't be driven home?
Cheers

Welcome to the forum KidJaguar,
If you want to make a profit then forget it. If you want a great car to drive and keep then it's worth considering.
Any 36 year old vehicle is beyond the normal book valuation systems.
In the hierarchy of value, a one owner, low mileage XJ12 with full service history would attract the highest value. A restoration project requiring body, mechanical and interior work is the lowest.
A complete vehicle with good bodywork but needing the engine fitted is closer to the bottom than the top value.
Post some pics and members will be able to give an opinion on condition and consequent value.

does the seller guarantee the replacement engine will run? if not, you will be entering the twilight zone with two untested 12 cylinder engines, not to mention finding someone familiar enough with the 12 cylinder engine AND the year and model of the car to get it done quickly and properly. The 12 cylinder engine by itself is a very expensive engine to tune and or repair.
I'm pessimistic about non-running cars. Offer $500.00 take it or leave it and walk away with or without it. Remember the old axiom of old car buying: "you are buying someone else's problem".
