xj12c miss
i have a question ....i have a miss on the right side of my v12 . i did a compression test , checked the injectors , power to the injectors, made sure i had spark to the plugs. im stuck on what to check next .... any suggestions ?
my second question is .... is it possible to strip all the polution control crap off the engine with out hurting the engine or the vaule of the car ?

I'd do what you suggest, in fact I'd go the whole hog and install fuel injection from an XJS, and dump all that emissions junk. That would certainly add to it's value, not devalue it, and improved throttle response, fuel economy and performance - in fact it opens up a whole new world of possibilities ;-)

what about the air injection rail ... if i pull that is there a way to plug all the holes or somthing i can buy to plug them ? as for the injectors i pulled them, and tested them ...then atfer i put them back used my meter to see if power was making it to the injetors.
Any change between hot and cold? If OK initially I'd suspect the ignition amp. If it is an original Opus it is way past its best. As a stop gap solution you could open the box and replace the electrolytic capacitors but the permanent cure is new internals (ReOpus from NZ or new box from I think SNG Barratt or one of the others).
Some aftermarket dizzy caps are bad even when looking perfectly good, same for rotors.
Check with a stethoscope (mechanics' rod type) that the clicking sound from the injectors are similar.
Finally you could have an intermittent ignition or injection fault due to fried wiring in the engine valley.

Yes as long as you plug the holes in the manifold airtight. The sole purpose is to introduce extra air to burn unburnt hydrocarbons aka pollution.

Start by standing at the rear and hold your hands about 20cm from the exhaust engine running. Feel for an uneven beat.
Check the coil to cap lead with an ignition lamp just illuminating a dark surface and preferably at dusk. If no obvious miss try one plug lead at a time and note your findings.
