Default XJ40 seats into a Series I

Has anyone ever installed XJ40 seats into a Series I XJ6? Does anyone know if they will fit? Thanks in advance.

I think that you might find that the center tunnel/console might be a problem.

Not sure, because it has been a while since I looked into a S1 that is waiting in a barn for me to buy.

IIRC you have an S1, too dark now but I'll measure the XJ40 widths and heights tomorrow, if no one else posts up.

(PS, sorry but had to delete the other identical post from the XJ40 section. Don't worry, no biggie, but we like to avoid duplicate threads around here. HTH)

Thanks Translator. Sorry about the double post. I wasn't sure which it should be in so I figured double coverage was better than none, but no problem. I'll eventually need a console as well. I've found all four seats in biscuit from a 93 and that's the major problem with mine. As I said in my intro post, the only major problem with it is the interior. A previous owner had redone in an odd blue-grey purplish crushed velour. The original interior looks to be olive since that is the color the console is. It is supposed to quit raining by Friday so I can pull it out then and take some pics to show everyone that while it's in good shape, the horror that is the current interior.
Thanks again,

If you need dimensions, post up your S1 set and I'll make a matching set for the XJ40.

Tunnel to sill = 50cm.
Cushion width = 54cm widest part across the top.

Thanks. I'll try to get some measurements this evening. I'm especially curious as to the possible fit of the backseat as well. From the pictures I'm seeing, I think the back seat might be a no go, but I'll get those measurements anyway. Thanks,

I don't think the backseat is going to work. After looking at side-by-side pics, the back portion are different shapes (mine angles in at top, XJ40 angles out) though both appear to have the same bench width (58 in). I could probably make the front seats work. Base cushion is approx. 52 cm at widest point. Tunnel to sill is approx. 54.5 cm at front of seat and widens past that. Broadest part of front seat back cushion is approx. 56 cm. I was hoping that they could be a direct bolt-in, but as usual that's not my luck. Thanks for your help though.

Default Seriously?

Richard, are you looking for a series I? It's quite a jump from Oregon but there are a few loose ones around here. A really beautiful one, well kept, sold for $5,000 USD not long ago, silly Left hand drive but it might work for you in France . Richard

Left hand drive would certainly work, so would right hand drive I don't mind and drive both on a daily basis.

However, I am not looking for a Series 1, I have already found one in the back of a garage.

It is an original rust free 2.8 Manual with Overdrive unrestored example.

I am just waiting for the owner to give up on it, at the right price. Currently asking $2400. When I can get him down to $1000 I'll be in there.

I don't know what condition the engine is in, it drove to where it now is, and was then just switched off and left.

I do have a spare XJ40 4.0 unit, but have nightmares when I think of the electronics work that would be required to fit it.

The owner is a friend of mine, so no problem waiting things out.

Teaser shot,
