Hey all. I have a chance to pick up a donor car for my son's 71 XJ6 restoration project and was wondering which might be a more cost effective donor car.

The 88 is cheaper, but I'm not sure how much of the car would be direct swap. It makes sense to go with the 78, but it's a little more $, would need to be towed or trailered and I'm still unsure how much would directly transfer to the 71. The interiors are probably the biggest concern, but the door and RH front quarter panel would also be great if either would work.

Here is what we need (that I know so far):
fuel pumps
RH front quarter panel (wing)
RH door
pretty much the entire interior (both potential donors look in good shape)
fuel pumps
front bumper (only the 78 would work)

Any advice the forum could lend would be greatly appreciated.

 

From my perspective, the 88 is a related, but much different car. I'd go with the 78. Much more interchange potential.
