Hi Jeff,

At least that green one looks like it has been looked after a bit better and not left out in the elements for a few years to rot & deteriorate like the last one you looked at.

Do all the usual inspections though. You don't want one that has been polished up to look OK but underneath is marginal.

In regards to cost of refurbishment, I always 'quote' a little on the high side as sometimes that is what it can cost even if you are watching your pennies.
More often than not, it will be less, but at least you have an idea of what the budget MAY blow out to if you aren't careful, resourceful and sometimes downright lucky.

Good luck,

Nigel

I can't swear to it, but I think this was for sale when I was looking for mine starting in December last year. I seem to remember that picture. At $2000, if it is the same car, it may have some issues.

Oh, it'll have issues....there's no doubt in my mind about that. A used Jaguar without issues is a rare thing.....especially in the price range we're (apparently) shopping in. But, it appears to be much better shape than the first candidate and, IMO, more likely to make the good basis for an enjoyable project.

Cheers

'Tis the rust repair and cosmetics that so many people under-estimate.

If the ultimate goal is an XJ6 that looks as good as it runs, I can virtually promise it'll be cheaper to find (and pay for) one that already looks great. As mentioned a couple times in this thread, sorting out the mechanicals is usually the least expensive part of a hobby/project XJ6.

Of course, if a person can DIY the body repair and paint (and leather!) that's a very different story.....although I'll wager that even DIYer paint guys will tell us to avoid cars that are too far gone.

Cheers
DD

Gentlemen, I agree. This latest one is a much better starting point. Looking forward to getting additional info from seller.

Good hunting,. It does seem to have potential.

But, as Doug says, Time, muscles and money will still be needed.

I called about that one back when I was looking...Pictures are old and I was told it is a rusted out animal lived-in mess at this point (read some reviews for this place...par for the course).

Not sure where you live, but I'm in St Louis area and I think I saw this one at a shop a few days ago. Do not know what's wrong with it and didn't crawl underneath but it looked in decent condition: https://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/d...652868604.html

Always leery of blurry pics but at least it's not overpriced. Hood looks to be popped open in the first pic, certainly not unusual but may be indicative. If you're near I would go have a look.
