Default 1986 xjs v12 coupe

2 door, been sitting about 12 years in a storage somewhere, anyways I have a chance to buy it off this guy for pretty cheap, they said it was restored before being put into storage around 12 years ago, but they have lost the key since then so there is no way of telling if the thing can start ad run without buying it and getting keys made for it, and yes it's really their car they own the title to it. Im just wondering what could possible be the issue with it if it doesnt run, and also how much it's really worth in current condition. Also how much keys would cost to make? And I do not know how many miles it has but interior and exterior look to be in good condition.

no need for keys as long as you can get into the car

simply dismantle the back of the ignition switch and the switching block can be started once its removed from the key barrel

as for the rest , well , thats up to you to decide

Heh - 12 years is a long time. Have you laid eyes on the vehicle? How is the cosmetic condition? Pictures are worth a thousand words.

I'm no mechanic, but from reading here I think at a minimum you'd need to flush / replace all fluids including fuel. And no doubt All the rubber is about to disintegrate on you.

How much is pretty cheap? And if you post your location, maybe someone can look at it with you.

Good luck!

$800 and they said they restored it 12 years ago before storage, kinda figure the tires and belts are probably gonna go bad as well.

2 grand can buy you a pretty solid runner. A non-running XJS can cost waaay more than $1800 to get road worthy. If it doesn't start they really don't have a car with any value. Couple hundred bucks (to make them feel like they got something out of it) is all you should spend. If it were a simple deal to get it running then they would, and the price would triple.

I just bought a $500 xjs v12 convertible that sat for years. Here what I got for $500
Coolant and fuel lines shot. Rad plugged. ABS brake pump shot. Calipers seized and fluid leaked out as seals were shot. All bearings pitted. Tons and tons of electrical problems. Tires shot from sitting on flats. This car doesn't run. I bought 2nd 86 xjs coupe with sbc and eill swap all running gear.
With that said I am enjoying the challenge. If you can afford a better car buy it unless you like to work on cars. I enjoy the challange and wouldnt have it any other way. When Zim done this will be MY car.
