1987 XJS 5.3 V12 about to hit the streets again
Thanks for all the positive feedback. I have taken on board comments from this forum and, instead of drilling my brand new right side front wing for a trafficator, I have deleted it from the left side instead. Let's see if the man from the department of annoying rules spots it ........

Test passed yesterday on the second attempt. First try there were a few trivial items that I should have fixed but was going to be late. No comment was made about the missing side repeaters so they remain in the big box of parts left over. She drives beautifully with hardly a rattle or squeak and I had forgotten what horsepower feels like.
Fantastic work, the magnitude of the task is awe-inspiring. Congratulations. Doesn't it feel fantastic when they are driveable again! And when you know all the rot is gone!
Any tips about how to paint at home?

The XJS is a great car to paint at home for a few reasons. There are some very clear demarcation lines between panels so you can mask off the left of the car and the only paint join line is at the rear where the side pane joins the roof. The front scuttle and wiper mechanism separate the left from the right etc. It means you can paint it in part and not all at once if you don't have the space to get around it all in one go. It is also very low so you can easily paint the roof. I would also say choose your season, previously I have had bugs crawling all over wet paint. If they do then leave them alone, rub them down when the paint is hard. Also, I recommend flat paint, not metallic, pearlescent etc. Finally, this time I used cellulose again, it is so easy compared with two pack, requires nothing more than a filter type mask and can be very easily blended if you need to touch up a mistake. Very finally, use the largest compressor you can, for the first time I have been able to spray continuously without having to keep stopping for a puny little air reservoir to refill while the paint dries on the panel.
OK, it's a working vehicle now and I'm planning my summer holidays .....
Brilliant work and great to hear it got through the MoT.
Interesting one with the repeaters. I'll bear in mind the testers only fail things that don't work rather than those that are missing!
