Default 1988 XJ-SC Hard Top

Dear members,

How do I fit and secure the Hard Top on my Jaguar XJ-SC?

Where do the hatches on either side fit to secure and hold the hard top in place ?

P.S. Nothing is broken but I removed it a long time ago and can't remember how to secure it back on. Sorry if my post seems lame

Hard Top for the Cabriolet ... very rare beast. I have never seen one in the flesh so cannot help.

If you have no joy here, I am sure some of the guys at https://xjs-soft-tops.com/ have them fitted to their cars.

Good luck.

I have one on my 88. The latch bolts to the inside of the roof frame with an Allen bolt. One on each side. If the latches are adjusted correctly, they will pull the top tight to the car when pulled closed.
don’t have a pic on my phone, but will try to post one when I get home tonight.

Found this on my phone if you enlarge it, you can see the bolt holes just behind the quarter window. There are three holes. Only one was used on my top, the second is only used with the soft top, and the third is for the decorative cover that hides the hardware.

Hi Chris, apologies for picking up an old thread, but I recently purchased a XJSC and managed get hold of a hard top. Can I ask if there is a separate metal strip that replaces the row of star bolts on the rear of the boot section that the hard roof secures too or is it just the two side fixings that secure the whole roof?
Kind regards
Mitul

hi,
I just went to look at my car, and for the hard top, I have only the two clamps on the side.
hope that helps.

Thanks Chris. I was asking become the "Genuine Parts Catalogue" shows a "catch" strip (item no. 44) which I have found no mention of anywhere on forums.
regards
Mitul

Mitul,

There's an error in that parts catalogue between the numbers on the diagram and the numbers listed for the part numbers.

"44" on the diagram is actually "47" in the list of parts - the flange seal BCC1324

and "41" on the diagram is actually "44" in the parts list - the hardtop catch BCC5587

See the Jaguar Parts website here - always a good place to start:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

Cheers

Paul

Hi Chris
I have found a NOS hard top for my 87 Cabriolet and am looking to fit it. Of the three holes in the rear pillar frame, which one does the clip fix to when properly adjusted? Top/middle/bottom.
I think that I am being very dense....
Regards
Peter
