If the speedo is working, the problem will be the odometer mechanism inside the speedo head itself. Best to get a speedo head from a breaker that works and swap them over. Instrument binnacle removal is covered well in the Great Palm's book.

There used to be Speedo repair shops in almost every town. Now they are all extinct.
The plastic gears crack and stop rotating.
