Default 1988 XJSC HVAC Complete Dash Replacement

I am embarking on a project that I am seriously not looking forward to. My HVAC unit is trashed. One of the previous owners cut wires and connectors, removed some of the vacuum controls and control box. I didn't realize any of this until cold weather set in. Great timing. Found a complete unit on evilbay for $350 from a May 1987 XJS that of course arrived damaged this afternoon. Now i have to take two and make one.

First of all I have to ask before i get started this weekend. There are clips that hold the box halves together. I need to separate this if at all possible to clean out the debris and repair a coolant line as I hope you'll see in the pics. I don't know if the halves are glued together and then clips added like some old Ford's I've worked on.

The next problem is the lower controls section. During shipping ( I assume ) the complete thing was shattered. I see it is held in with push-pins. I don't think the person who removed this unit knew that. I wonder of i can use the lower plastic from my old unit and just swap out the knobs and slider controls.

I'll post pics of my progress and some video's on youtube. I'd really love to have much better weather to do this in since I have no garage. Maybe i'll find my rainwater leak while i'm in there.

As long as the two units are BOTH Delanaire mark III, or both Delanaire mark II, everything is interchangeable.

Default ac replacement

If you do not care about being 100% original, you can go the other route and remove delanaire and install an aftermarket.

My confusion continues. What's the difference between Mark 2 & Mark 3 Delanair? I received the unit I had gotten fro Ebay from a 1987 XJS. Everything is exactly the same as mine except for the fan speed control.
My Temp Control ....

Donor car Controls in the same order .....

Any ideas how I can make this work?

The Delanaire III and D II are not compatible. the II is ECU controlled a per your pic of the ECU controller. The II is not.

On the III you can pull out the temp knob one 'click', (this puts it into manual full cold mode when working). On the II the knob does not click out. This is an easy test to prove if you have one of each type.

It looks like you have. If so, the II will not help you make the II work, at all.

Turns out that I have the same unit but for some reason the controls are different.

Found several kits at vintageair.com and ebay. After acquiring a complete Delanair III unit and replacing the motors my system does not work. No vent actuators action, no blower control and still no heat. Had the dash down to the bulkhead and inspected all of the wiring, fuses, replaced vacuum hoses. Everything looks good but no response. I'll try to replace the baby grand. If that doesn't work I'm pulling it, selling it and going on to the aftermarket unit. May even rat rod the gauges since I don't think the cluster will survive another pulling. No local help, so this forum and FB is it.
