As said, not mine. I also don't ride motorcycles, so I can't comment on safety. In my opinion they should all be banned because the majority rides too fast and too dangerously...

Then the engine is ready to be fitted... Just wish the body was.

You should put a big red warning over these pics, proper car p0rn, looks fantastic

I'd keep it under blanket in my bedroom

Holy cow Daim, cleaning up nicely! For the longest time I had in my sig '00 VFR 800 in yellow. Always loved that single sided swingarm on my bikes. Wouldn't mind the VFR1200 either...

Cheers flint!

My Pa loves them too. He also loves shaft driven bikes. All 3 are shaft drives and he just kind of likes it. Prior to the VFR1200 he had a Honda DN-01. He love the looks and transmission, but said it lacked a bit of handling and needed more power.

I had to look up the DN-01. Not sure if we got that in the States, I've never seen one. Pretty slick!

Any further progress on the body (Jag content) yet?

Not yet. The bloke who was supposed to weld it over christmas has lost an arm... Not kidding. Crushed beyond healing capabilities after he managed to get it jammed in his car lift. No idea how but yeah... So I'm looking for a skills weder here, who can take on the complicated job of doing some standard welding to a high quality. I am really demanding. If my uncle was in the near, he'd have it done within a couple of hours.

Yikes that ought to be fun. If it doesn't scare the heck out of you. You don't even need to think about trying to ride it!

Crickey, this has been too long without any jobs done.

Currently on my bench:
- CC refurb/overhaul
- TH400 rebuild and upgrade

Takes a little but should be done soon...

Okay guys. Finally managed to get something finished again. So, the cruise control bellows are a kind of hate thing for many people. I want to keep them, so I overhauled 'em and am fitting them back into the V.

I had problems getting some plugs, as they are just typical US trailer wires, but not common here in Europe. So I went to import some from the States but then thought "Hey, why not use a Jaguar cruise control harness and adapt that" so I did. Worked out cheaper. €13/harness and was just a simple cut and correct. Easy peasy. Looks very new now!

Next step: removing the transmission, need to make one out of two (a few parts for thr TH400 aren't readily available anymore). Also to fit the air filter boxes and AC hoses, fuel cooler, etc. should look like a finished engine then!

Tiny little steps but it is coming along... Maybe it can go back in this year...

This is annoying. Trying to get a sump with a drain plug and also deep for an acceptable price (meaning for like €200 incl. shipping) is like an impossible mission. I'm tempted to simply have someone weld a drain plug into mine.

I wanted the Jeggs cast alloy one (even if it may possibly be brittle) but they charge an arm and leg for P&P. Then other knock off from Taiwan are rubbish, as they are 'deep' but when the arrive they are about as deep as a tea cup saucer... Great!

Darn transmission!

Off topic but are those Elliot Lucas wire strippers in the CC bellows photos? I started my toolmaking apprenticeship there.

Hi Daim,

Haven't seen this thread before. What a fantastic contribution to the forum with lots of useful photographs.

My only regret is that it is not a 6 cylinder car like my own. Have you thought about getting one of these and starting again!

Cheers,
LeeP

I have no idea. They are my Pa's and he got them from his Pa... So it may well be... They still work and are well sharp still...

It is a 6 cylinder. Well, it is technically two 6 cylinders. And to be honest: I wouldn't want an AJ6/AJ16 in the XJ-S. The car is all about the V12. Like getting Lamborghini SUV... No V10. No V12. Just an Audi V8.

So, I am greedy... I just bought a fuel rail incl. feed and return hoses for the V12. I already have a good'en. But I am thinking of having it nickelplated... My current one has been zinc plated (yellow to immitate the cadmium plating from 1989). Just I am not sure. It is such a present part. Chrome would look wrong. Nickel has a nice tint to it. Not as clear as chrome but also not as dark as copper... If I carry on buying parts, I can open my own spare parts store... 'Damien's pretty perfect plated parts'

This ain't dead yet! Still moving on. Just in slower steps than I thought after my XJ8 died and required a very quick replacement, lots to do at work, a replacement for the XJ that was a pain in the bum and then a new car which is so fun to drive, I don't like doing anything else other than driving that!

So, today marked the near completion of the top of the engine (as far as possible). The new AC hoses are on. The air filter boxes are on. Basically only needs the fuel injector rail and the wires and it is ready to start - if only my car didn't need a bit of body work done in the engine bay prior to installing it...
