Default 1992 Jaguar XJS Standard?

Hello,
I am looking at a 1992 Jaguar XJS, it's got 173,000 KM, 6 cylinder. I haven't seen one with a standard before and I was wondering if anyone had information on the standard transmission and if there is any things to look out for.
Thanks!

Do you mean a manual (stick) gearbox?

A 1992 4 litre manual has a Getrag 265 box. It's a good box, can handle the power of a standard 4 litre and no real weak points. As with any box, regular oil and filter changes are key to good performance and long life.

Thought it was the Getrag 290.

Anyway, Blainer is that the white one with blue interior and tinted windows for sale in Toronto? I say jump on it. The only things you need to know is they're a blast to drive with the 5-speed and only 37 coupes were sold that way in Canada.

I'm averaging 29mpg (imperial) in mine.

Greg,

Apols, you're absolutely right! i meant to say 290, not 265! The 265 (As I suspect you know!) is the box that was fitted to the 3.6 XJS.

I must say that I took the leap and I got the car. My first Jag. Lovely so far although I am storing it until the weather gets better.

Congratulations! I'm irrationally happy for you and hope you love that car as much as I do mine.

Thanks for all the replies, I had gone and looked at it when it was up for sale. I decided to pass because there was too many red flags, hardly any of the body gaps were even on it especially the bottom of the right front wheel well, so i passed and the hunt continues!

It looked great in the photos but I wondered whether there had been a respray at some point. Hopefully we'll get some new photos of it so everyone knows what car we're talking about!

To be perfectly honest, there are gap differences on the left and right side of my car, and it has NEVER been knocked or repaired. It was built that way. But you actually saw the white one in person Blainer so you'd know what you were seeing I'm sure.

Thank Mkii250 for clarifying about the gaps, yes, I agree with you these gaps are "by design". Let's be frank, this is a car whose manufacturing process dates back from the 70's if not 60's. I think the blend of old and new is what gave the XJS its charm. The paint is probably a re-spray there is a crack on the hood and a couple of bubbles around the rear driver' side rear wheel well.

Altogether this is is not a 1 but more a 3. I was not looking for a perfect car but for a solid driver. The availability of the manual is what in mind makes it desirable. My goal is to take care of her in a reasonable way and let her stay on the road in her golden age.

I will post pics and impressions when I'll get it out on the tarmac.

Another treat Philip is that your XJS will have the Sportspack suspension including rear anti-roll bar...makes a big difference in reducing understeer vs the many heavy-nosed V12 XJSs that don't have it.
