Default 1992 XJS TWR I6 - Any info?

Hey guys, I went and bought myself a 1992 XJS, and took it to a shop that specializes in jags to get fixed up. He tells me its an all original XJS TWR I6, and that one in that condition is very rare. Does anyone have info on such a car? My ownership and vin tell the same story, but noone seems to know anything about it?

Wikipedia isn't any help.

Thanks,
Isaac

AFAIK TWR did not do any 6 cyliner engine mods, but of course you never know... It is most likely that the car had the body and handling packages from TWR. Have you tried Jaguar Heritage, they may have something?

Isaac,

I'm afraid there is no such thing as a 1992 TWR XJS. TWR enhanced XJSs from 1985 and could provide enhancements for both 3.6 I6 as well as 5.3 V12 cars. In 1988, Jaguar formed a new company called JaguarSport and from that time TWR did not sell any more XJS enhancements or cars. JaguarSport made the XJR-S which was only offered with the 5.3 and then the 6.0 V12 engine.

So, if you have a 1992 6 cylinder car, you don't have a TWR car or a JaguarSport car. What you might have is a standard 4.0 XJS with some JaguarSport bumpers on it.

In addition, you can't tell a TWR car from the VIN, but you can tell a JaguarSport XJR-S from the VIN.

So if your dealer tells you that you have a 1992 TWR XJS then unfortunately either he doesn't know much about XJS or he's scamming you.

I hope that helps. if you want me to decode your VIN, then drop me a line.

Paul

I've never heard of any straight-six TWR related XJS, be it the pre-1988 TRW XJS, or the later TRW/JaguarSport XJR-S of 1988-1993. While it is possible to install a TWR body kit on an AJ6 car, it wouldn't mean much compared to the highly tuned V12's, and more so the special 6.0L V12 these cars were featuring by 1992.

Something's not right...

Cheers,
