1993 XJRS 6.0....... run a mile?
All:
Have been a way for a bit after my V12 died.
Have now entered Porsche 928 world ('87 S4, 5spd). It's everything my 5spd conversion '88 V12 wasn't i.e. reliable (so far), slightly soul-less interior etc. The 5.0L V8 os a gem, but if you are not driving a V12 you are not really driving - right?
Enter into the fray is a '93 XJRS 6L which is sending me covert 'buy me!' love missives.
As I recall, these came with the Zytek ECU which was a wonderful idea back in the day, but is now impossible to service and big red flag.
Is there a workaround i.e. ditching the Zytek altogether with a more contemporary engine management system?
Grateful for any and all thoughts.
Missed you guys!
All the best,
Quentin

928 manual! that must be a rare car.
Fairly sure you can ditch the Zytek for an aftermarket style ECU e.g Emerald, maybe even Megasquirt.
You may need to make some things up e.g new engine wiring loom, a crank trigger wheel for a crankshaft position sensor, possibly replace the injectors, possibly fit modern coil packs with new HT leads, there will no doubt be many little niggles that need thinking about but generally speaking it's all a fairly well trodden path now for old engines I think & I don't think anything particular about the Zytek cars which would make this any harder than anything else.
Possibly easier as they may already have additional 'modern' sensors which you could reuse, over a Marelli XJS?

welcome back!
I assume the Mobeck system would work, maybe require a few modifications to his wiring harness.
xjrs is great but I think it will be low on “fun factor” with the 3 speed auto(compared to your Porsche and old Jag).

Thanks guys,
and hey Nick........ hoiw goes the rear diff replacement (done I presume).
My mechanic did mention megasquirt. I have the Getrag (Jaguar specific) 5spd gearbox in my basement from my old XJS, so yes, as well as replacing the Zytek ECU, would also do a 5spd conversion at the same time. I gather Ford's involvement did improve reliability on the later models. The 928 is a blast to drive. No rear mufflers and cat delete. It does sound glorious

Mine is all done. 3.73 and Truetrac Helical LSD. Drives beautifully.
Bilsteins all around.
only thing left is the windshield seal, need to swap out the crappy aftermarket seal in there currently.
i have the OEM in the garage ready to go but its low on priority list for now.
weather is getting nicer, lets meet up sp I can check out the Porsche!
