Default 1996 4.0, clicking from front wheel.

I have a clicking sound from my car's front when in a right turn. Only in a right turn and the cadence changes according to speed. I have removed both front wheels to got a really good look but the click will not happen with the wheels off the ground when I turn the wheel by hand. Do any of you know if the ANTI-LOCK brakes could be doing this. I am stumped, so far.
Thanks, RagJag

Ragjag,

Very unlikely to be the ABS sensor ring. Are you sure it's not a stone in the tyre tread? That's a very usual symptom of a clicking sound that changes with speed.

It may be the edge of the tire is rubbing on something when in a sharp right turn. With the weight on the suspension and additional left leaning due to turning, the wheel may be high enough in the wheel well to rub on something intermittently. Just a wild guess...

The click sounds very sharp and may be getting a little louder. No sign of a stone in the tread. No spot on the tire to show it is contacting anything. I will eventually find the cause if it gets loud enough to really hear which wheel it is coming from.

I have read somewhere online that a poorly installed or loose center cap on wheel will cause a similar noise.

Thanks, RobertL. My center caps are new and quite tight. MY wife thinks the click is coming from the rear wheel on the left. Not sure yet. I will post the solution if I find one.
Cheers, RagJag
