Default 1996 xjs straight six, bank one and two

I've got to replace an O2 sensor. Bank 1, Sensor 2. On a straight six, which is bank 1? I can't find it in the service manual, and the book doesn't cover it.

The front 3 cylinders are bank 1 and the rear 3 are bank 2

That's what I thought. A few people and I sat about pondering it, but none of use had ever owned a straight six vehicle where it mattered for so trivial a concern.

I'm glad that turned out to be correct, however, as I've already removed the sensor. I'd have had the thing in by now, but I spent several hours yesterday attempting to determine how to go about removing the "P" clip securing the sensor wires. It's attached the bell housing area by a T-50 bolt. No worries, right?

Well, I don't own a single tool that will get in there and remove the darned thing. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried every size of ratchet. I've tried a bit held in a small wrench. I've tried a serpentine belt tool with the bit attached. As it turns out, the bits meant to attach to 3/8 inch drive tools are just too long. As well, any tool I've got that's small enough to hold a plain bit is too short to remove the bolt.

Tomorrow, I hope to weld a cut down T-50 bit to a thin steel rod in order to remove the clip. I'll just cut the clip if that doesn't work. I'd like it to work, however, so I can count the threads and grab another bolt to mount the thing in the next hole up. I don't want to cut it if I don't have to.

My only guess is that this particular bolt is actually part of the assembly that holds everything together. Why someone would use such a bolt to secure a simple clip is beyond me.
