83 XJS Salisbury differential drain plug help

Default 83 XJS Salisbury differential drain plug help

1983 XJS . Hi,hoping you guys can help. I changed the differential fluid a few days ago and now it's leaking from the bottom plug.previous owner had it in there halfway threaded in. Never seen that before. Didn't see any thread damage but I'm sure there is. Anyway,what would you recommend in this situation? Help

It should be a tapered pipe thread, so I wouldn't expect the plug to go all the way in. I coat the threads with Loctite 567, thread sealer before installing the plug and so far no leaks.

1/2"BSP from memory??

ALWAYS some sport of sealer on those threads, its "steel on steel" as we say.

Only choice, drain it again, let it drip out, HOT is Vegas at the moment, so drink beer for an hour or 2, then refit WITH sealer, and refill the diff, simple.

DO NOT get stupid with a long bar etc, you WILL snap it off and be in more shiit.
