Default '85 XJS Turn Signal using Brake light?

Alright, so I'm new to the scene. Owned mine since February, been slowly trying to get it back up to par (so far, some genius ended up at some point mickey mousing the ECU at some point, got that fixed thankfully; then another idiot put the wrong battery in it. Currently working on getting that fixed). Now somethin it did back when the ECU was mickey moused; the driver's side turn signal would blink using the upper and lower half of the brake lights, rather than the orange turn signal provided for it. After I got the ECU properly replaced, that problem seemed to cease. Now, the issue has appeared again, is there any reason why this issue is persisting? Or hell, even happened to begin with? Is there another rigged piece or blown fuse I should be worried about? Or is that some kind've fail-safe put in by Jaguar themselves?

Quite often such lighting anomalies are caused by weak grounds. As I recall...a bit foggy, mind you....there are some rear lighting grounds very near the lights themselves.

Remove/clean/tighten any grounds in the area. Remove bulbs and clean the sockets until shiny.

No promises but it's a pretty easy place to start and a decent chance of fixing the problem.

Cheers

Pull the light unit out of the car and carefully check its connections, internal wiring etc. and the state of the multiplug that it connects to. As Doug said, clean up the earths in the boot, which are alongside the ECU on the chassis rail below those relays etc under the carpet cover.
