Default 88 v12 won't start or crank

Got off of work early and tinkered with the jag a little bit. It currently doesn't have a battery and hooked it up with jumper cables to see if the fuel pump made noise, which it did. Then turned the key and nothing, not a sound to be had(yes I was still hooked up via jumper cables). My question is where I should start looking for possible culprits for the starter not doing anything?

I would start by jumping wires at the starter relay. That will tell you if you have a good starter motor or not. If not check the main battery feed connection on the firewall post and from there l guess it is ignition switch, gear selector micro switches, fuses etc.

Before you start diagnosing problems the first thing you need to do is to install a fully charged battery.

It takes a lot of current to turn the starter. Unless you are using seriously large jumper cables I doubt the starter is receiving the current it needs to turn.

Put a battery in the car. Then you will know if you have a real problem or not.

Yep,,,,,, Most jumper cables are not heavy duty enough to start a car with no battery installed.

Ditto:

Electric diagnostics must start with a fully charged battery. then, good cables clean and tight on each end.

I wandered way off course a bit back while chasing a "no brake light" issue. battery went plumb (0) in the midst of the hunt. Much false negatives and lost time....
