Default '88 XJ-SC Cabriolet paint job - before and after

Posting some before and after pics of my '88 XJ-SC after the paint job. Since the top is cloth, I still need to get it dyed black by the upholsterer that will be doing my interior. I'm going to end up with more invested in this than KBB excellent value!!!

It'll be a long time before the value on these cars appreciates significantly. But we drive them because we love them.

What a transformation! If you don't mind sharing some details, was this an all panels off, bare metal respray?

Jack I hope you don't mind I enlarged the pics for everyone to enjoy.

She looks great, I would be a very proud owner!

Hood, trunk, and doors removed to get the door jams, etc, but was not taken to bare metal. I didn't go for the high end paint job I originally wanted (unforeseen repairs took a toll on my budget), but didn't go econo job either... this was middle of the range.

Not all all! Much appreciated, in fact. I couldn't seem to get them any larger but noticed if you put your cursor on them, it popped up a larger window, so I went with what I could get.

Easy way of enlarging.

After you attach pics, goto "click preview post" the pics will become larger, "right click copy", go back page, right click again "paste", click post reply.

If you have questions just ask.

Thanks, Rick! I'd have never thought of that back door method to resize the pics!

While I'm looking at my own pics again, and shaking my head regarding the faded cloth-covered top, anyone ever dyed one of these tops before? Wondering what may be the best product to use.

There are no rips or tears, just faded, with the back portion faded far worse! Yes, that rear section WAS black, it just faded to tan for some odd reason. I could only tell it was once black looking at where the edges tuck in... those are still black.

Im also curoius about top dye. I have a new top that I installed myself but there is a black line that developed from the rear window seal. I cant get it off without going through the dye . Even if I could just get close to a match in dye color. Anything is better than the black line...
