Hello all,
I recently purchased an 1988 jaguar xjs v12 hess & Eisenhardt convertible. My frist jaguar. Kinda as a project with my son. It has 30000 miles on it. It has been setting for years. It will not start. It does crank. Frist thing I did was clean the fuel tanks. It has fuel pressure. 40 psi before the return regulator. It has spark. It will try to flutter on starting fluid. I have cleaned all the G6 ground wires. It appears to not be getting any injector pluse. I have 12volts at the injector plug. Strange thing is that I have 12volts on both wires with the key in the run position. Is that normal? I checked the ab14 box, tested the ignition module Inside the Box. It tested ok. Any ideas what next.
thanks in advance
Joe
There is a sticky in the XJS Tech Section, "No start of a ........".
12v both sides, yep, as the fueling ECU controls the Earth path in 4 batches of 3.
If, and I mean IF the Injectors are heard clicking, good, to a point, but that has ZERO to do with them actually passing fuel, frudtrsting, hell yes.
You have tested a few things, good.
Is the a Fat Blue Cracker if a spark AT the spark plug.
Sitting for years, sparkers are toast, HT leads (all 13 of them) are toast.
The dreaded Coax Cable to Pin 18 of the ECU, is HIGHLY suspect to me.
The CTS, and the associated wiring, all the way back to the TPS area, and the ATS loop that develops as you open the loom, are a PITA as age creeps in.
CTS Coolant Temp Sensor. :located on the B Bank thermostat casting.
ATS Air Temp Sensor, located in the snorkel of the B Bank Inlet Air Cleaner Assembly Cover.
Mileage traveled, Yeh-Nah, as Garage Queens cost waaaay more than a Daily Driver to keep, fact.
As we say Downunder, :Coupla Days Mate, she be running.
Hi, before you go down the route of ECU wiring or issues its worth putting a 9 v feed to each injector, you should hear an audible ‘click’. I made up a simple injector connection (Amazon) to a 9 v battery and by simply energising the injector on and off you can sometimes free off a stuck injector. With the v12 ‘ s just be careful removing the connection from the injector, its a case of getting the retaining clip slid to the side before you pull it off, good luck
Find a friend, and have them spray Starter Fluid up the aircleaner snout, a GOOD LONG SPRAY, as its got a looong way to go, while you crank it at the same time.
If you get a cough or fart, then it is lack of liquid Bang Juice that is your problem. Injectors need attention.
If it remains silent, then spark is highly suspect as well as maybe Bang Juice.
WARNING:
NEVER EVER attempt to start a V12 that is stubborn, with the aircleaners removed. They have a BAD habit of belching flames out of the throttle bodies, and ruining the paintwork, and other human things.
Thanks guys . It will try to putt with starting fluid. I've order injector plug to do more testing . Thanks for the advice. Just 9 volts works not 12volts?
