i have a 1988 jaguar xjs. when i bought it, the a/c is working perfectly. I brought it to jaguar specialist to get tune up. after the tune up, they told me that the a/c is not working. I checked it and the ac clutch is not engaging. I checked the fuse(25 amps) and replaced it to make sure. I took the reading using a gauge and it reads 85 psi(its high because the compressor is not running). I was reading some of the thread and someone mentioned that there is a fuse between inlet and outlet that i need to check. i tried to look for it but i cannot find it. I also noticed that theres a wire from the compressor that is not hooked up to anything(see picture. the wire at the left is from the ac compressor. I dont know what wire is on the right side). Can someone help me troubleshoot this. The shop told me that they can retrofit my system. I told them that theres nothing wrong with the system before i brought it to them. what is the fuse between inlet and outlet looked like ?
Are both disconnected wires green/white? That would be correct for the compressor circuit.
If so, connect them together and report back.
Not sure about a fuse "....between the inlet and outlet...". Inlet and outlet of.....what? Some used a three-prong "thermal fuse" which is mounted right next to the compressor....but your '88 shouldn't have it. Different circuitry.
should i connect this two wires together ? so i should not have a thermal fuse because i have an 88. I will take another picture of the other wire. But the green wire is coming from the compressor. Don't know whats the other wire coming from. this is
another picture i have
the wire color is green and red. I connected them together and nothing happenned. The blue and white wire are harness that is connected to the two prong on the compressor. Is there a way to manually test if the ac clutch is engaging ?
In the manual, it talks about a low pressure switch which cuts off the a/c automatically until reset by a mechanic. Does anyone know where this switch is so I can do this myself, or has anyone else experienced this problem?

Mine leaking freon so I unpluged a wire to compressor and it stopped it from engaging, will look tomorrow and take pic.Sounds like they did something to charge you more $. I have not trusted dealer, mechanics in a long time.
Honey, that new mink coat you wanted just drove into the shop. LOL

Get a battery, put direct 12 V to both Terminals on the magnetic clutch of the AC. If you look at the compressor, you'll see a black plastic plug at around 2 o clock when looking from the front of the car. Otherwise about 10 o clock. Take that plug off and you'll find the terminals. 12 V applied, doesn't matter which side is which, as the magnetic field doesn't change polerisation, and ypu should hear it CLACK if it works. Can be a burn out coil though. It does happen.
Thanks all. besides that the wire(green/red) are disconnected. I found that the inline fuse(10amp) behind window washer tank is missing. As soon as put a 10amps fuse, the ac started blowing cold air. Thanks for all the help.
he was charging me 300 plus just to recharge it PLUS troubleshooting. This thread help me and found that the fuse were removed. Very disappointed with the repair shop.
