Advice on Coolant /Antifreeze
Hi all. I bought a 1994 XJS convertible with the 4.0 6 Cylinders engine a year ago . I have a leaking heater control valve that I’m replacing. Now I can see that I have green antifreeze in the expansion tank and needs to be top off. So my question is can I just top it off with the regular green antifreeze or should I flush the whole system and add European antifreeze that I’ve seen in the stores. Thanks
All that matters is that the same chemical type of antifreeze is used when topping up. For example, as long as the antifreeze in there already is glycol-based, any glycol based antifreeze will be OK.
When the fluid in the car is an unknown I always get back to basics.
Follow the spec in the owners book, albeit it possibly outdated, but it is a starting point.
I run the Aussie spec Green Longlife in both X300 (same engine) and never had issues. That same coolant spec in teh V12's as well.
PITA I know, but the 6cyl is not so dramatic to bleed as the V12, so there is a bonus.

Thanks for the reply. If I flush the system. Which I’m leaning on doing because the car only has 36,000 miles on it and I don’t know when was the last time it was changed I might as well do it. What is the proper procedure to bleed it. Thanks again
