Default High torque starter motor.

Hello, I would like to replace my tired starter by a high torque.
Question, the pinion is changing from 29mm to 25mm after engine number #7S 7001. My jag is from 1983. How can I be sure ? The engine number is not visible.
Thank you.

You just want the later one not the e type or early carb. ones
You will love it, it sounds proper.

I agree the gear reduction starter really works well and is both light and compact.

It's also considerably shorter, so the alternator to starter cable that runs thru the conduit may or may not be long enough. I had that issue today. It's a whole lot lighter, and much easier to wrestle into position. I had to drill out the cable ends for both the main battery cable and the solenoid wire.

Hopefully by now they’ve gotten rid of that stupid bus sized alternator and replaced it with a modern, much smaller sized alternator. While they are getting rid of obsolete junk that A/C compressor finds the trash bin to be replaced with a modern compressor that’s 1/4 the weight and size.

Thank you for your reply, I'm 100% convinced. The problem is that the seller is waiting for an answer, 25 or 29mm. I can't seen my engine number, it's full of wires.
I suppose that the 29mm was for the E-type and early XJS but I really don't know on which car the engine #7S 7001 has been placed.

Hi, do you have a reference for the AC compressor ?

Yes, if you replace the stock bus sized alternator with a modern one and toss the stock A/C compressor away you can fit them both on the side and the beauty of the V12 starts to show.
Plus with air now able to flow over the engine you won’t need to air condition the fuel lines.

The whole engine compartment starts to clean up.
Yes a little fabrication is required to make everything work and look tidy. So if you aren’t capable of that sort of work and don’t have someone who can figure it out for you, you’re stuck.
