Hi '50 Shades' my Grey XJS V12 is now ready and waiting for her MOT, the only problem being that I need to get insurance before I go anywhere!

The only other problem being that as She has been laid up for so long (since 2005!) all my no claims bonus on her has expired! which means I have to start again from scratch.

Nearly all the quotes I've had from Price Comparison Sites have been just under £200 pa. but in the event of a total loss, which doesn't seem to take much these days for an Insurance Company to write off.

They will only pay out 'Market Value' which would probably be a lot less than what it would cost to replace it, not to mention the chance to increase your Premium!

So with that thought in my mind, I've been looking around for 'Classic Car' Insurance.

One Classic Insurance Company came in with a Quote of £800! are they having a laugh or what! which after a bit of 'haggling' got reduced to £400!
Which was still far too much in my view.

The best quote was from 'Admiral' at just under £200
Bearing in mind that my own Valuation was for £18,000 in the event of a total loss.

They want me to send them some photos, which is fair enough but I don't want to take the insurance out unless they are willing to accept my valuation first.

Which of course they may be willing to do

Has anyone dealt with this Company? and could recommend them as this could be a pretty good deal.

Any alternative recommendations would be welcome.

Also any Companies to Steer clear of!

If you are not a member of the JEC (Jaguar Enthusiasts Club) then I highly recommend that you join and use their service to get an agreed valuation. There are loads of specialist insurers in there too.
You are looking at the high end of valuations for these cars and just because you say so doesn't mean that they have to honour that figure in a claim.
If you reckon it is worth £18,000 and then have a crash that results in £6000 of damage (easily done) their assesor may come round and value the car at £5000 in which case they will write it off and you've lost all your hard work.
The JEC (and others of course) offer an independent valuation that your insurer 'agrees' to so in the event of a claim you all agree that the car is worth that much and if the repair bill is below that then they have to honor it; if they won't agree to an agreed valuation then find another company.
I use Adrian Flux at the moment and have used Footman James in the past but as I said in a post a while back a lot of these outfits aren't insurers they are brokers.

That sounds a really good idea! I will join the JEC right away.

I've also just read the reviews of some Insurance Companies (say no more!)

OB,

Totally agree with Steve! Join the JEC. We have arrangements with 3 key insurance brokers who span the Jaguar range. Some focus on certain models so get quptes from all 3. The General Manager of the JEC will provide an agreed value figure for your car, based on photos, reports etc, which will be accepted by the broker.

My own XJS is insured via Adrian Flux. Others have gad good service from Peter James. Cheapest isn't necessarily best and you do need to ask around. There are lots of posts on the JECs Bulletin Board re insurance.

That is exactly what I am going to do, as the more I read the Customer reviews of some Insurance Companies the much more wary I get.

My Merc got hit in an empty Car Park over 5 years ago (I wasn't even in the Car at the time) and I got the whole thing sorted out 'in my favor' with no involvement or Cost to my Insurance Company whatsoever!

But when I mentioned the incident they still put a black mark against me, as a 'not at fault accident!' Which they should never be allowed to get away with doing!
