Air con

Air con
My XJS. 1991 pre facelift, V12, convertable is approaching perfection. Revised engine, belts changed, new top, new painting, well, it runs smoothly and with the exception of the speed control everything is working.
Last thiing we have done is the air con. I took the car to my mechanic to settle the air con. My mechanic said this air con system is a complete disaster, the whole system is bad. I provided him with one scheme, for XJS 90-91. He said the scheme was entirely different from reality, then a new schem was provided, this a 1994 one, not OK. Then my mechanic decided to make a new installation with a new system. He has installed a swith to put on or off the air con and has implemented some security items. I am worried about what he has done, anyhow the air con functions perfectly, but I am still a little worried.
I am also worried about the mpg; in urban traffic no less than 13 and in autoroute 18, do you consider these figures as correct?
Opinions?
Regards to everybody.

If the aircon is working then be thankful!
Mileage about right for a standard car. If your car is a Lucas ignition car, rather than Marelli igntion, just worth checking that the vacuum unit attached to the distributor is still holding vacuum. If not, this impairs MPG.
Lucas ignition has one large round distributor cap with ONE lead going into the middle of it, the Marelli has TWO leads going into the middle of the cap.
