Default no start xjs 4.0

Hi everyone , new to the forum and hoping someone can help me,
Iam the proud owner of a gorgeous 1993 4.0 xjs convertible which is usually very reliable , however the battery was on its last legs so I fitted a new one today, however since doing so the immobilizer wont let me start the car , all the dash lights come on and all other circuits seem fine , it just wont turn over on the key .
I have noticed that the immobilizer key does not now make its usual bleep on removal , does something need resetting ? its so frustrating as it was only a battery change and we were hoping to go for a drive out with friends .
Any help would be very much appreciated
Regards , David

David,

Absolutely understand the frustration. It definitely sounds like the problem is with the alarm/security system. Mine did the same until I reprogrammed it. Hopefully, my discussion and help from the list will help you:

Update when have tried the reprogramming.

Good decision to remove it! Less potential problems! Update when removed.

Default Non start xjs 4.0

Hi folks, well I called out an auto electrician in the end with a view to removing the extra immobiliser , he found the non start to simply be a blown fuse I think the radio circuit , replaced it and she burst into life !
He advised me to leave the immobiliser in as it was very well installed into the car and would be a real pain to get out.
Paid the guy and he went away , I decided to have a short run out in the car after leaving it to run for a few minutes ,got to the bottom of the road and it died on me , cranking over fine but not firing , gave up and got my friend to tow me back to home where I tried to start the car again , hey presto!she starts first touch and continues to be fine, starting and running lovely.
Started her up yesterday and was all good getting up to normal temperature .
Went indoors for lunch and came back out , tried to start car again , no go , it's turning and all dash lights etc are working but just won't fire , I,m wondering if in disturbing the wiring while investigating the original problem an intermittent fault has been created . Any ideas ?
Hope you're all well out there

I removed all 'imobilizing' junk from my '96. I do not like anything that will stop me from starting and driving my car.
Cheers, RagJag

This is going to be a long shot but try wiggling these wires, take the plug off and look at the condition of the terminals.

My car stopped and started similar to how you describe yours. In the end I found that the wires inside the connector of this thing ( don't know what it is !) we're not making contact very well and the slightest wiggle would kill the engine and If the wires were just in the wrong place the engine wouldn't start.

I cleaned and re tightened the connectors and it hasn't done it since. Sweeeet !!

Hope yours is as easy to fix.

Carl
