Default Air filters

So I fitted the new twin trumpet air filter covers and jolly smart they do look in red.
Did the 75 mile run home and the car felt like it was being strangled, a lot of the get up and go had got up and left.
I fitted new filters at the same time but they were slightly different to the old ones; the old ones had 2 equal sized holes in the support plate whilst the new ones have 2 different ones, a small one that goes opposite the throttle intake and a big one in the forward half of the casing.
Would the latter cause a reduction in air flow due to the smaller aperture opposite the throttle?
Have I got it the wrong way round? there is an arrow pointing towards the front so I presume that they are the right way round.

I can t see how new filters would bog your car down and with the new twin trumpet covers it should have only improved performance. The one thing that I can think of is the air temp sensor on the original left trumpet, where is it now and is hooked up and working properly.

Why not remove the filters, go for a blast, and see if that makes a difference? If it does, talk to Induction Technology Group in Coventry and get them to make you a set, they made a HUGE difference to my car.

also couldn't you refit the originals and see what the difference is, as the loss of performance is possibly something you have done while fitting the twin,
I fitted twr covers and k & n's cheap from eurocarparts via amazon, and it is fine,

I swapped the air temperature sensor from the old ones to the new ones - actually ran outside yesterday {yeah, I know, me, run!} to check that I had plugged it back in which I had so we can rule that out.
I'm a bit reluctant to take the filters off for a run as , being out in the boonies, it is as dusty as hell at the moment due to a lack of rain (England, no rain, go figure) and I don't want to suck it into the engine.
The only other thing that I did was modify the fuel pipe to the rail; for some reason the main feed had been replaced with a 10mm rubber pipe that was going into the 8mm spiggot on the fuel pressure regulator; the hose was compressed and starting leaking - praise the Lord for the exhaust manifold heat shield as it was letting the petrol flash off instead of igniting. I figured that I needed to do something when I popped the bonnet and saw the petrol starting to smoke!
I couldn't find a proper adaptor so cobbled it up with the wotsit off the end of an air line; maybe the internal diameter is a bit too small and I'm not getting enough fuel through at full throttle? At least it's not leaking anymore as it was doing sod all for the fuel consumption.
I'm waiting for a proper reducer and some stainless steel braided hose to arrive through the post so I'll fit them and see if it improves.
Regarding the air filters, is there any reason for the difference in the mouning plate holes?

Later; thinking about it a bit more I reckon that the problem is the cobbled together bit that I put in; the air line connector is 10mm to 8mm but being very high pressure rated it is very thick so the internal diameter is probably closer to 4mm - could that be the problem, insufficient fuel supply?

Steve
Why don't you just temporarily put some socks over the trumpets and remove the filters, see if it makes any difference. Fuel leaks are buggers, I just bit the bullet and replaced all the hoses, I went with Gates Barricade fuel hose 8.0mm(5/16") ID.

Mmmmmm, socks. Should I use sports socks or more formal dress ones? I hope that they don't get sucked in!
It's a bit warm out at the moment (28C/80)F in the shade so I may wait until the morning.
The fuel pipe has arrived so just waiting on the connector.

No, the ones on the actual filters themselves.
The original filters had 2 evenly sized rectangular cut outs on the base; the new ones have one large rectangular cut out and one smaller square cut out. There is an arrow on the base labelled 'Front' which places the small cutout opposite the throttle intakes so I was wondering why there was a difference and whether the smaller cutout would affect the flow or not.

HAHA I should have being more specific, I was thinking about trumpet socks that we use to put over the Webber carb trumpets, just slid over the the top and you cable tied them down.

The air filters with the evenly spaced openings are for non-abs equipped cars, the non-evening spaced openings are for the abs equipped cars. They are designed so the metal area is over the throttle body.
That shouldn't be a big deal and sap the power.
