air injection plugs and pulley
All,
Any of our friends in England who can get me in touch with either a used (preferred) or new set of the manifold plugs and idler pulley. I want to remove the air pump and injection plumbing on my car. Do I need anything else?
I have a friend traveling to England for the Holidays who can bring the parts back for me saving me a ton of money in shipping expense. Thanks, Brad
Now back to getting the car started again and removing the instrument cluster and cleaning the contacts.

If he has no idler pulley (and its bracket, very important) try looking on ebay.co.uk, loads of breakers on there.
The manifold holes can easily be tapped and plugged, but there is a specialist supplier of blanks too:

Thanks, I sent Andy an e-mail. $110 (pounds) seems very high for the little pipe inlet caps. Hopefully a junkyard (breaker yard) option will be available. I think this will clean up the engine compartment nicely by removing all the piping around the fuel rail.
Brad,
I simply tapped the inlet manifold flange hole to take a grub screw, then put the plate back ( too lazy to cut the long studs shorter) and nothing can be seen.
As for the pulley, I found an idler arm and bracket minus the pulley, BUT, Jaguar being what they are, the pulley from the air pump fits perfectly, and that solved that little issue.

I'm just doing it to cleanup the aesthetics of the engine. I don't anticipate any performance improvements.
Nothing heard from Andy at Just Jaguar XJS Parts yet. Hmmm....
Any help from our England residents to check on the contact is appreciated.

Does anyone know the CFM of the pump? I've wondered if it could be routed to something else like ventilating the dist/V area if it does infact move alot of air.

The pump only runs for about 45 seconds on startup, I believe. Get rid of the whole grisly setup, say I, much better V access. The dizzy ventilation works just fine as OEM.
I vote with Greg. Get rid of the whole mess. Once I get my car running again and solve the windshield wiper and left front turn signal indicator light issue that will be my next project.
Any help from a friend in the U.K. with obtaining a set of factory "airpipe plugs" along with the bracket and pulley from a junkyard (breaker yard).

If you are thrifty and don't care about what it looks like you could simply cut a thread in each hole, get twelve screws and o-rings from your local hardware store and be done for under twenty bucks.
When I removed the air rails on my V12 I removed the manifolds & tapped them & installed countersunk allen bolts. They would never be able to come out & it never looked like the car had air injection. The air pump onnthe later cars only works on the warm up cycle.
Finally heard back from Andy at Just Jaguar XJS Parts so it looks like that end of it is going to happen.
It sounds like I don't need to get the pulley since I can use the one off the anti-smog air pump, right? Will it come apart and then attach to the idler arm fairly easily without any modifications or fabrications necessary?

Yep.
4 bolts, so ONE beer poer bolt to remove.
Wash the pulley, ya wont it clean for the refit.
4 bolts back in, same bolts also, and another beer per bolt.
You are DONE, pulley and drinking.
Pulley swap, 10 minutes, tops.
Beer time, whatever it takes.

Thanks,
Andy sent me a picture of the parts. I can re-use the existing adjustment arm and the pulley from the smog pump. It looks like just the bracket and the idler arm is what I need.
I am going to get the machined plugs from Rushton Automotive. Everyone has been great with their self improvement projects but I am taking the easy way out. Once I get the car back together and running removing the air rail injection plumbing will be my next project.

The OEM set up for the non air pump Euro version has a odd bearing that probably cost more than the rest of the set up to replace. Just something to consider that hasn't been mentioned. Next my 91 had the air pump manifold holes already threaded. I just installed threaded allen head bolts/plugs.
