Default air pump issue

Hi all:

My wife's car is a 95 2+2 convertible with the AJ16 motor. Tonight as we came up the driveway we heard this light hum from an electrical motor working. At first I thought it was an auxilary fan working to cool the car as she had just arrived but it kept working. After 5 minutes or so I popped the hood and found the air pump still running. I unplugged the pump, it stopped, then pugged it back in, it started back up. After another 15 minutes while I search the forums to ascertain what it was I went out and unplugged it for good as I don't want it to deplete the battery.

Is there a thermo switch that controlls this pump thats gone bad?

Thanks all

You may want to see if the relay is shorted, it is in the row under the hood on the left side. I am sorry but I forgot which one it is but it may be the rear one in the row on the left side, they are blue.

The Electrolux air pump is operated by the ECM for a short period 2 times during cold start. It should not operate after that. The power relay for the air pump might be faulty keeping the pump running. There was a newer pump and fuse upgrade (25 amp to 30 amp) and a TSB for your car. The system is the same as the X300.

Here is some info but you need to get 10 Posts and 3 days to download.

When I bought the car 3 years ago I replaced every relay under the hood and for the top but I will check and see.
Thanks.
