Anyone know how to remove the rear panel to access the quarter window in 93 XJS Conv.
Anyone know how to remove the rear panel to access the quarter window in 93 XJS Conv?
I currently have the passenger rear quarter window and top down and I took out the peg you can see from the outside but it doesn't seem to want to lift up so I can access the rear window motor. It looks like the leather wants to tear where the chrome seat belt plate is so I stopped. One post said to take that peg out and pull toward the front of the car and lift up slightly but it seems like it's being held in by something else I can't seem to locate.

Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Mike,
there's one or more hidden press studs ("fir-tree type fasteners") located in the leading edge of the B-post on the 1/4 panel. You should be able to feel where they are. It's possible to remove the panel with the treadplate in situ but some people remove that first.
If I can think of anything else that holds it in place, I'll post again
Good luck

Sorry I'm not the most savvy owner haha. I'm not sure what the B post is. I have a picture of the panel in "my garage".

mike.keith4,
The B-post is the vertical panel that has the door latch plate on it (does that make sense?) The trim panel runs down there and then curves at the bottom to the sill tread plate.
If you read the manual, it's fairly clear on the best way to remove that panel.
Good luck

I feel like the kid in Math class that is just not catching on; I definitely appreciate the help though. There isn't a illustration in the owners handbook unfortunately about removing that panel. I was unable to feel where the other fastener is by running my hand along it.

mike.keith4,
Happy to try and help. The removal is pretty clear in the service manual although it does show a pic of the coupe panel, rather than the convertible. Apart from the seat belt, it's pretty much the same. It also shows the position of those fir-tree fasteners.
You won't find anything in the "owners manual". You need the Jaguar Parts & Service manual. I wouldn't even consider running one of these cars without the proper service manual. Dirt cheap on DVD from Jaguar Heritage.
Good luck

Thank you all for your replay.
I succeeded to remove the rear quarter panel with a home made tool. I had some difficulties because the window stuck middle-way just to cover the screw located behind..
I removed the upper curtains (23) and the bracket (26). I tried to pull out the lower curtain (24); No way. I did not force it not to damage it. I wonder whether there are other fir trees or else somewhere at the rear side of the lower curtain, that I don’t see on the attached exploded view.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance for your help.
