Lovely car, by the by.
I only have personal experience of the HE V12 model. Of these models the coupés have slightly higher top speeds for aero reasons. Also the UK/European spec models are the most powerful as they have no smog stuff and higher compression ratios than the USA models. Of these models, ANY of them will easily do 145 real-world mph regardless of air temp, load etc. Most of them will do quite a bit more. My car has actually done a timed 148 mph and was still accelerating.
Basically, a good condition V12 HE coupé UK spec will do 150mph on the flat, and will do more in low air temps.

FWIW, and please allow for my aging memory, the highest I've seen in magazine roads tests is 153mph and, yes, that was a ROW high compression model....30+ more horsepower than USA cars.
I think 135-140 might be realistic for low-compression models.
The "while still accelerating" remark is important, IMHO. Whenever top speed comes up I always wonder about the length of the road. With a long enough run you can probably squeek a few more mph out of any car....but what can the car realistically hit without running flat-out for 5 miles?
Sorta seems like cheating if the car walks right up to 140 but coaxing it to 145 requires the Bonneville Salt Flats, a tail wind, perfect atmospheric conditions, alignment of Mars and Venus, etc.

There is a great day each year in the UK called the Jaguar Speed Trial, held on a partly used RAF station runway, and organised by a very motivated and decent RAF officer.
The format is 1.25 miles from a standing start with a timing beam at the 1.25 mile point, and enough room thereafter to slow and turn. Still accelerating in my case at 145 mph. This also enabled me to confirm that, at that speed, the speedometer was 100% accurate. I did the 148 on another ocassion, elsewhere.

ive only had mine up to about 130 on the highway but this was in a very short burst when i was attempting an "italian tune"
My only real comment was that it was pulling like a fcking train. the v12 love to rev and will go quite fast in 2nd gear. Barking the tires over 100 isn't my cup of tea exactly so i slowed down and put it back in 3rd.

We have something similar here in the US called the "Texas Mile." I've never participated but it looks like a lot of fun!

been to the TEXAS MILE, and it is really an eye opener!
a standing start to the end of a measured mile, very accurate clocks!
best Jag that i seen was 161mph,a supercharged XKR-S.
never seen an XJS, but the records are UNBELEVABLE, a Ford GT40 went 257mph, even saw an old 93 Toyota Supra go 246mph,in the standing mile(inline 6 turbo,3L),
lots of over 200+ cars.
its really an experience to just spectate, seen a kid(Mexican) with a 1979 Chevy pickup truck go 199mph, and after wards he was unhappy,he didnt make the 200mph CLUB!
YES, back in the 80s 150 was fast,but today you can buy cars off the show room floor that are good for 180+. and if you noticed factories are cutting back on HP!
just for bench racing talk, asked one of the hotshot fast guys,how much HP does it take to make a 2002 Camaro(good aero) go 200mph, he says calculated, over 850hp,(minimum)!

Strangely enough, 'er indoors was Secretary Of The Meeting at the very first Goodwood Revival (Goodwood Revival - Historic Motorsport & Aviation Event) and the press were being a pain, crawling under the sides of the tent to get into the drivers briefing.
She asked this bloke wearing slacks and a blazer to shoo them away and it was Andy Green, the fastest man on the planet, ever!
She also upset Johhny Herbert by forgetting his name every time that he signed in.

In 1989, on a stretch of I-16 in Georgia USA, the Georgia State Patrol 'confirmed' that my '85 XJS HE was capable of a speed of 146mph. My speedometer simultainiously indicated a 1/2 needle over 150mph. The choice I was given of the immediate payment of a huge fine to the local constabulary or a weekend at the Graybar Hilton made it necessary to accept as fact that the calibration of the GSP's time/distance measuring equipment was correct.
