Battery question
Haven't been here for a while, mostly because nothing ever goes wrong with my 1995 xjs. (4.0L). However now the battery shows signs of dying. I have heard good things about the Optima batteries, but the web site claims they don't make a battery for this car. However, the current battery ( Sears Die Hard) seems to be of a rather standard size, and installation looks very straight forward. Anyone know why I shouldn't just get a battery that fits, and any recommendations. I live in the desert (Nevada) and the heat is tough on battery life. The is driven about 3 times a week and is garage kept.

You only need 3 things for the battery. As long as it physically fits the pos and neg terminals are the correct orientation and the CCA (cold cranking amps) is large enough you are pretty well home and hosed.
My battery is a 600CCA and works well. You also want make sure the battery totally sealed. Calcium batteries are good and seem to be readily available these days.
My battery was smaller so the original clamp did not quite hold it down as well as I would have liked so I made a new clamp from small piece of 20mmx50mm wood and new longer generic tie downs I bought from my local auto parts store, you don’t see the tie down as its under the cover anyway.
cheers
