Default Best Option for Dropped Valve Seats? Repair or Replace?

It looks like my XJS has suffered a dropped valve seat.

What is my least expensive option? Find another engine? Repair the head/s?

If repairing the heads are the most economical, can the heads be removed while the engine remains in place or is removing the engine the best way to do the repair? Also, can someone recommend a shop that can repair the heads?

Please feel free to offer any suggestions to help get my V12 back on the road. (I really have no interest in a V8 conversion).

Thanks!
Mark

While it is just about possible to remove the heads while the engine is in the car, I believe that this is SO difficult that it is much better to remove the engine and then do the work.

If you can get an engine second hand that is good, this is easily the quickest and almost certainly the cheapest way to way to get going again.

Then, you can work on the old engine at leisure, and even end up rebuilding the while thing as funds permit!

I know you are in CA, but you'd be surprised how inexpensive you can find these V12s..

Here's a link to someone who's been selling his V12 and tranny for months on a local Craigslist ad. I don't know anything about this person or product, but I did want to point out that they are out there...

Gregs advice is really good. My XJC is getting a replacement engine out of an abandoned rusty project. But because the car is an unrestored previous multiple prize winner I want to salvage the original engine if possible
