Default Big Headlights question

I've been loosely looking to get one or two spare large headlights (Cibie?), and I was speaking with a US Jag supplier on another matter and asked him if there actually was a LEFT and RIGHT headlight, or do you simply flip one over. He tells me there definitely is a left and right headlamp, and more than that, they are built differently for RHD and LHD cars, in that the reflector or something was oriented to point more towards the outside of the road and not the centerline.......Is that so, or is he trying to steer me away from ever buying them from a British owned car?

Wink He may be right

I recently had to remove my headlight cause the ground for the high beam cam off and noticed on the back was printed"LHD" luckly that's what I have, cause I didn't know anything about this aspect when I bought them. Bud

He's right.

I think it has more to do with the lens fluting ....but I guess the reflector being different as well is entirely plausible.

Cheers

Default Headlights

Wow, more "Uniqueness" of the Jaguar. I now see why some people want to convert to the quad lights. -Are they Halogen Bulbs in the Euro Headlights, or Sealed Beams?

The big lights are distinctively right and left. The RHD and LHD versions are different because of fluting in the lens. The RHD version tosses light in the wrong direction for use in the US.

The quad lights actually offer better lighting options IMO. Cibie, Hella, and Bosch all make quality lamps that bolt in. My personal favorites are the Cibie Z-beams. Bulbs are avaialbe in a variety of power output and color, though I hate the blue and think the lights are far less effective with them.

If you add anything more powerful than a standard H4, I recommend relays. You will not believe the combined output of 100W high beams in all four lamps at once!

Hi. I have a pair of CIBIE LHD headlamps (minus bulbs) used, but mint and complete all boxed in VALEO boxes with appropriate stock labeling for sale if anyone is interested. I am based in the UK. My XJS is RHD but spent most of its life in Europe and only returned here in 2012
