Default Both power seats and both wing mirrors not working

Hi all,

I'm a recent addition to the forum but a long time sufferer of poor british car electrics..
..so my latest problem, recently both front seats of my 1992 XJS 4.0 decided to stop working at all, along with both wing mirrors (the horn also is not working but this might be a seperate issue).

There are no noises, clicks or any sign of life at all from any of the components. The fuses are all ok.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks very much!

Oli

Not my car but there's a lot of electrical diagrams here
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ams-faq-34887/
which might help while you're waiting for the XJS seat men to come forward.

Check the harness connectors under the seats at the front).
Are you sure that the fuses are ok? Sometimes they can visually appear ok but may still be knackered; try a continuity test.
When my mirrors packed up I disassembled the toggle switch, cleaned everything and they were fine after.
Given the seemingly unrelated items I'm wondering if you have a dodgy common earth point somewhere.

There is power window relay over passenger foot area, to the right. I can bet you it has solenoid coil wire rotted off.
Here is UK (the wrong steering wheel side) version for you, it is number 15 to check.

Damn site is downsizing all pics tonothing, here is original:

Mish Mish, would the power window relay have an affect on the wing mirrors and seats not working? The windows go up and down fine.

A bit more info on the problem:

Both seats and wing mirrors were working fine until one day I noticed that none of them worked at all. Looking at previous topics this has happened before, so I wonder if there is a common module/ECU that operates both front seats and also both wing mirrors?

I don't think they are seperate issues, and would be bes to treat them as related until I prove otherwise..

Thanks for the help guys, all really useful!

Oli

Sorry, I though you said "windows", mornings are hard on me...
I would say start checking appropriate relays one by one, I can bet you that entire cascade is off due to relay somewhere.
I had similar issue, where half of my electric equipment went out, all due to one relay over driver's feet.

Check the fuses and in particular the memory fuse in the fusebox under the drivers side, even if you don't have memory seats.
It blew on mine and I had the same symptoms as yours. I went thorugh everything before I found it.
The seats and mirrors are controlled by two units under each of the front seat at the front (slide the seat back, which of couse you cant! duh logical place to put them) to access. THey are prone to getting wet if you have any leaks. Pull and replace the connectors on them.
Whereabouts in london are you?

Thanks, that's great, I'll have a look. I'm in Bayswater but the Jag is currently down in Salisbury, Wiltshire where my old workshop is. I'm new to living in London and finding that lack of garage frustrating!
Cheers
