Today I began a project to replace the carpet in my LHD 1990 XJ-S, starting with the rear deck. While digging out the dried vegetation and a variety of loose screws, nuts and broken plastic fasteners, I noticed a problem with my convertible top.
The arm that supports the lower driver's side glass is not attached:
This is a better photo of the arm that I lifted from Senior Member buddyluv's reply on a thread titled "Convertible top replacement." this is a photo of what would be the passenger's side on my vehicle. The problem area is the top right corner of the photo.
I have a bad feeling that the arm on my car has a pin that has broken off. I can't really tell how the fastener works, and I don't have the courage to try to take the matching other side apart to see how it works.
My question: Does anyone know what I need to repair this? I assume I need either a new arm or a new fastener. I have tried searching forums and parts sites, and I can't find a diagram of the convertible top frame or any part numbers. I've tried all of the keywords I can think of. Thanks in advance.
As best I can tell from the parts book, the hood ( in British English) is supplied as an assembly, there are no individual parts for the frame mechanism available separately. You might be best looking at the other side and making parts to suit. Or finding something that has been wrecked and salvaging parts from another car.
