Default Bulb replacement

Any idea how to get into this light (XJS 2+2 rear interior) to change the bulb?

Thanks

That is exactly correct. The whole assembly will pull right out. Don't be surprised if it isn't the bulb however. These lights get really hot when left on, and the plastic actually deforms, even breaks, and you will find the bulb loose inside the fixture. I have repaired both of mine with a little patience, ingenuity. They are a little pricey used, no idea what they might be new, if available.

I seem to be able to get one side to pull it and the other side binds. So one end ends up half pulled out and the other end is still pretty much flush. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

There is a part of the fixture that protrudes just enough to cause what you are describing. When you get the one end pulled out, just tug on it in that direction while pulling out on it. Its not that hard to just pull the whole panel if you are that uncomfortable with pulling on it. That way, you could get a good look at the back side, and see what you are pulling on. There is a metal bracket that is pushed into the hole and the light presses into it. It becomes pretty obvious once out.

Good to change the bulbs to LED as they do not get hot.

If not for the terrible bluish light quality.

Believe me, I want to go LED, the light is just too cold.

be really careful, I didn't know how these were constructed when I changed my interior to LED and lost the ball bearing as the spring popped out during initial removal

I'm aware of the bulbs they offer, I have used them before.

The lighting is more cold, and bluish that the warm, yellowish light you get from a standard bulb.

Some people don't mind, I do. I think it affects what the car looks like on the inside, alot. The regular bulbs will last long enough once you change it.
